How to SIGN OUT of Amazon.com

image of amazon.com' logoYou've logged into Amazon.com to purchase, comment, or check order status, and now you want to sign out. But you don't see how to sign out from amazon.com!

It is annoying when you have to hunt for a log out option, but don't worry. One of our 3 solutions will work for you.

Option #1: works for most folks:

  1. To the right of the search bar at the top, you will find "Hello, YOUR NAME" and below that "Account & Lists," followed by a small dropdown arrow (▼).
  2. Hover the mouse over the dropdown arrow so that the dropdown menu appears. At the bottom of the dropdown menu it will say: Not your-name? Sign out.
  3. Move the cursor down the menu and click Not your-name? Sign out. That's it! (odd that you have to admit that you "aren't you" in order to sign out ☺.)

Option #2: if you can't see the Sign Out option discussed above, try this:

On a PC, press the Ctrl key and the - key (hyphen key) simultaneously to zoom the browser window out. (On Mac, use Command key.)

This should allow you to see the bottom of the dropdown menu to sign out. If this doesn't work, try option #3 below.

Option #3: Very easy alternate method to sign out:

Type sign out in the Amazon search box and press the Enter key. The first item below should say "Log Out of Your Amazon Account" and click the link beneath that says >Sign out now.

In my case following steps 1 and 2 below in sequence did not work. Instead I discovered that while I was performing step 1 if I also held the ‘down’ key that would scroll the drop down menu to display the option shown in step 2 below. Then I could select that and log off.
1. Hover the mouse over the dropdown arrow so that the dropdown menu appears. At the bottom of the dropdown menu it will say: Not your-name? Sign out.
2. Move the cursor down the menu and click Not your-name? Sign out. That's it!

When the drop down menu is to long to display on your screen, use the 'ctrl' with '-' buttons to make the page smaller in order to display the entire drop down menu on your screen.

thanks. it was a great help

Thank you! That's the stupidest thing I've heard of...makes me want to cancel my Prime account that I just signed up for. I think I literally read EVERY word on the page looking for the effing Sign Out click!!!!

Hi. Thank you but it will not work at all. It is ignoring my command. Any ideas?

What a poor web page design! How hard would it be to put a sign-out button next to the "My Account" drop down box. Amazon of all companies should know better than this. One should not have to click, scroll, click just to sign out. Most web pages have a sign-out button in the heading of the web page even if there are multiple pages, it's always in the heading.

very stupid! it took 30 minutes to finally find out where the sign out located

I used to use this method to log out, but it appears that the "Not- your-name? Sign out" menu item has been removed recently. Anyone else notice this?

Your comment interested me so I looked. For my account, the line beneath my name now says "Account & Lists" ... but still in the lower right corner it says: "Not (name)? Sign Out". I still think it's funny that you have to agree that you are not you to sign out - lol.

I think that's funny too. I checked again just now to see if perhaps it was just a fluke that my sign out option had disappeared under the drop down menu. It's still gone though. I have scoured thru the whole site looking for a way to log out, but cannot find one, so it looks I'm gonna be logged in for the time being.

When will Amazon change the sign out process? It is very antagonizing and makes me want to cancel my account, too!

THANK YOU Anonymous May 24, 2015!!!!!!

Unfortunately this method (which used to work) NO LONGER WORKS. At least not for me. There are so many goddam options in the pulldown list that the "Not so & so" one for logging out is so far down the page that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get to it without causing the entire hovered over menu options to DISAPPEAR because it thinks you are trying to do something on the page. Unbelievable. Guess I will have to instead try deleting all my cookies or install a different browser... What a PITA!!!!

zooming out the screen size with ctrl - will enable you to see the entire dropdown menu and you can select the bottom most option (not your account) to logout.

type "Sign out" in the search bar and press Enter. Click on "Sign out now", to log out of the account. Close the browser and your are all done. Genius

I tried it and it worked. Interesting!

I think they make it hard so you will linger longer and buy more crap. Reminds me of the early days of the Internet when you would join a site and they would hide any means to cancel and delete an account.

This was the only option suggested that worked for me. "zooming out the screen size with ctrl - will enable you to see the entire dropdown menu and you can select the bottom most option (not your account) to logout."

If you're not sure how to do that, press and HOLD the Ctrl key while you tap the - key. Posted so others, like me, don't have to look it up.
Thank you Anonymous! I was getting so angry at Amazon. Well I still am but at least now I know how to get around their bullcrap!

I agree with others that this is poor page design. Perhaps designed to keep people logged in? which contradicts Amazon's cautions to us to always log out for security.
It would be refreshing (and also appropriate to Amazon's image of being helpful, which is largely is), to design a page with a logout button that is larger, separate, and at the top of the page, as with other websites. Leaving us to muddle around to find and scroll to a remote option, at the bottom of a long pick list, is not worthy of Amazon!

Sometimes U wonder who these big companies get to code their websites. They must live in a cave. Thanks.

Thank you for "Sign Out" search option. Finally!

"Sign out" is at the bottom of the list that shows up when you hover over "Account & Lists." Hover over the first item and simultaneously use your down arrow to go to the bottom of the list. Left click and you're out of there.

Thanks, Andre. I've updated my post. Amazon changes this so frequently!

One way to quickly log out of amazon. ;1.log in to your account. 2. Hover over your "Hello, Name" to bring up drop down menu. 3.Move pointer down to "Sign Out" and right click on it. On this menu choose the "Bookmark Link". You can then put it in your Bookmarks Toolbar. It will then be in your Toolbar for easy sign out. (I'm using Firefox w/ windows 10)It works. They don't want you to sign out in hopes that you will continue to surf their sight and buy. BOOOOO!
