How to Disable GMAIL's Suggested Replies on DESKTOP and APP

This article explains how to turn off the Smart Reply feature of GMAIL on the DESKTOP and on the mobile App.

You may have noticed recently that when you receive an email using Google's GMAIL, there are often canned responses you can select from at the bottom of the email. Here is a screenshot:

Other replies offered include: Sounds good to meGood for me too. I vote yes.

Google calls this the Smart Reply feature. With this feature active, GMAIL scans your emails in order to make what its algorithms think are logical replies based on the email's content. The object, of course, is to save you time. However, some folks don't find the feature useful, and some find the scanning of their emails for this reason somewhat creepy, so here are instructions for turning this feature off on the desktop and the mobile app.

Turn off Smart Reply on the DESKTOP

Follow the directions below to disable this feature when using Gmail on the desktop.

1. Log into GMAIL

2. Go to GMAIL's Settings or just open this link in a new browser window: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/general

3. Scroll down a bit more than half way to find Smart Reply: and click the radio button for Smart Reply off.

4. Then don't forget to click Save Changes at the very bottom of the window.



Take a look at the other general settings. You may also with to turn off Smart Compose, whether or not to have images automatically display, conversation view on or off, and more.

Turn off Smart Reply in the Gmail APP

This feature is available on iOS Gmail app and on the Android.

1. Make sure the app is up-to-date

2. Open the Gmail app and tap the 3-bar icon in the upper corner. Then select Settings.

3. Tap your email address and look for Smart Reply.

4. To turn off the feature, uncheck the box, or switch the slider to OFF.





How to Delete a Google Gmail Account

Do you have a Google Gmail account that you no longer use and would like to delete? Then keep reading.

Deleting a Google Gmail account, of course, will permanently delete all of the emails sent or received. Forward any emails you want to save to another email address, and write down the email addresses of friends so that you will not lose them.

To delete a Google Gmail account, follow the directions below.
  1. Log into your Gmail account.
  2. Type google.com in your browser's URL box and press Enter.
  3. In the upper right corner, click My Account.
  4. On the Google Accounts window, click Edit next to My Products.
  5. Under Delete Account, click the link that says "Close account and delete all services and info associated with it."
  6. On the next window, put checkmarks in all of the boxes next to the various Google products, and put checkmarks in the boxes stating that you want to delete your account and that you acknowledge that you are still responsible for any charges incurred. Then type your password and click Delete Google Account.
  7. The next window will indicate that your account has been deleted.
